LSTA Leadworker of the Year 2019

Are you proud of the leadwork skills you have and have undertaken an LSTA or LSA leadwork course?

If so, don’t miss your chance to give your career a boost and gain recognition for your skills by entering the LSTA Leadworker of the Year competition.

The competition is open to leadworkers in the UK – whether you are self-employed or working for a contractor.

There are also some career boosting prizes available with the winner receiving a free week of training at the LSTA, a new set of tools and a copy of the Rolled Lead Sheet Manual. The runners up will receive a copy of the manual and a three-day personalised development training course with the LSTA’s experienced tutors.

You will also gain industry recognition as the Award will also be presented as part of the UK Roofing Awards in May 2019. The LSTA is a proud Industry Partner of this event.

LSTA Leadworker of the Year 2019 - Competition Rules and Guidelines

Competition Entries

The competion is open to anyone who is employed by a reputable UK Roofing contractor/Plumber. Applications from Contractors working on a self-employed basis are also very welcome.

It is expected that all entrants will be reasonably competent at welding and bossing and have undertaken training at the LSTA or an LSA course.

A competition entry form must be completed and submitted together with supporting information and photographs directly to the LSTA no later than 22nd February 2019

Organisation of the Competition

Following a desktop assessment of the entry forms and photographs of work done, entrants may then be contacted in order to arrange for their work to be viewed by a vetting officer.

The finalists will be selected from the entries received to attend the Final at the end of March.

Bona Fide expenses will be paid for travel on submission of receipts

The Final

The finalists will be set a series of tasks over identical model roof sections, to be completed within a set time limit held over a period of two days.

Each competitor will be given a set of drawings and detailed instructions to enable him/her to complete the test piece and set of drawings will be issued approximately one week before the date of the final. The drawings and final instructions will be made available to competitors on arrival.

Each individual competitor must complete the test piece unaided.

Judges will mark each competitors piece in accordance with a pre-set marking criteria and marking sheet, based on BS6915 and LSTA recommendations as contained in the Rolled Lead Sheet Manual.

All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn and used at all times.

Safety footwear and protective clothing is to be provided by the competitor.

On conclusion of the practical tests the judges may discuss design theory and working practices in order to test the knowledge of each finalist.

The judges will examine each model roof section and will then determine the overall winner of the ‘Lead worker of the Year’ Award for 2019.

The winner will be announced, and the presentation will be made at the UK Roofing Awards ceremony that be held on Friday 10th May the InterContinental London at the O2.

Judging Panel

The judging panel will consist of 4 judges from the industry and their decision will be final and binding.

Prizes

The overall winner will receive:

  • A set of Leadwork tools
  • The Lead Sheet Manual
  • A week of training at the LSTA of winner’s choice

Each of the runners up shall receive:

  • Lead Sheet Manual
  • Three days personalised development work at the LSTA in Kent

Please Note: The week or training for the winner, and the personalised training for the runners up must be taken up within one year of the presentation awards ceremony.

These options are designed for experienced workers without formal qualifications who want to obtain recognition of their skills by obtaining an NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 qualification without the need to spend significant time on off-site training. | More >
