The English Heritage Trust have confirmed they will require contractors to have a Heritage Skills Specialist Leadworker CSCS card when they are working on projects with significant amounts of historic leadwork. This follows a successful pilot at the Grade I listed Audley End House in Essex, repairing the lead sheet roofs and gutters.
The specialist HCSCS card demonstrates that the holder has the right skills to work on historic and traditional buildings. The Lead Sheet Association runs a number of specialist courses that would provide the leadworking skills needed for this kind of work. Depending on the level of experience there are a number of training and assessment options:
For those with a lot of experience already there is The Heritage Experienced Leadwork Practical Assessment (HELPA), the Supplementary Upskilling Programme (SUP) or On Site Assessment Training (OSAT).
For those new to leadworking there is the Specialist Apprenticeship Programme which includes the Heritage Leadwork Level 3 qualifciation.
Details of these courses can be found at http://leadsheet.co.uk/training/training-courses/ or contact us to discuss your requirements in more detail on 01622 872 432 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
